Carillo continued on his good form from Kalgoorlie last year with a tough win first up over 1100m at Broomes opening meeting on Saturday.

Sitting second outside the leader, Shaun Meeres looked confident at the top of the straight with Carillo holding off Marcamjo by a short head in the last stride.

It was a good win at 1100m for the miler whose training has been taken over by Rob Gulberti.
