| Veeten and William Pike |
"Veeten wins his first Saturday race"
William Pike showed why he is the states leading rider with a classic ride on Veeten in the Bozs Handicap (1600m) on Saturday.
After drawing wide in the ten horse field, Pike was obliged to go back and found himself near last the fence coming to the bend.
While the rest of the field fanned, Pike held his nerve and the fence opened up for a glorious run. By the time they had straightened, Veeten was pushing off the fence in second place.
His closing sectional of 34 seconds flat meant his opposition didnt have a chance, Veeten prevailing by 3/4 lengths.
The big Redoutes Choice gelding now has a record of two wins and two seconds since coming to WA from Queensland.
He was an ex-Patinack Farm horse, sold after Nathan Tinkler liquidated the majority of his stock.
