| Werd led the Scorcher on New Years Eve (pic D Wyer) |
"Listed 1200m"
Werd goes first up into the Cyril Flower over 1200m on Saturday.
Once again, he has drawn wide, a hurdle he has had to overcome more often than not in his races.
Last year's RJ Peters winner and Railway placegetter Westriver Kevydon heads to the race along with Reimbursement, Caves Road, Moneghetti and the outstanding Maschino.
Long thought to be suspect at the 1200m journey, Werd led up the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) last year and was beaten just 1.75 lens by Ortensia and Rarefied. His work this time in with Campbell McCallum aboard has been much more relaxed, a trait that could help him run a stronger 1200m in this type of company.
