| The Elusive Quality weanling colt from Messenger Miss |
"For a visit to boom sire High Chaparral"
With the breeding season upcoming and through the recent success of Werd it has been decided between Ascot Bloodstock and Gangemi Racing to send his dam Messenger Miss to high class Coolmore stallion High Chaparral.
High Chaparral needs almost no introduction. With only his second crop of racing age in Australia he sired the winner of the nations premier Weight For Age event the Cox Plate in So You Think. He also sired Shoot Out, who was the winner of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and the Group 1 AJC Derby. In fact in the AJC Derby High Chaparral sired the first three horses across the line, from the only three of his offspring to compete in the race. In doing so became the first sire in modern history to achieve such a feat in Australia. High Chaparral is also the sire of Monaco Consul who is a multiple Group 1 winner with wins the in Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick before taking Victoria Derby over 2500m.
Messenger Miss will have the best of her progeny in Werd take his place in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint on Saturday. He has worked his way from restricted 74 rated class to open class this preparation. On the way he has racked up a total of seven wins and and a further seven placing from 22 race starts and a total bank of $225,600.
While Messenger Miss is in foal to Statue Of Liberty, who is the sire of Hay List and Mic Mac. She also has a weanling colt that looks a spiiting image of Werd by Elusive Quality.
Messenger Miss hails from a terrific pedigree. She is a three quarter sister to top sire and a sire of sires in Green Desert. Green Desert is a terrific stallion himself and his sire sons in Cape Cross (sire of champions Sea The Stars and Ouija Board), Invincible Spirit, Volksraad (Leading NZ sire), Desert Sun (Sire Of Sunline) and Oasis Dream (29 stakes winner) are doing a terrific job for him around the world. In fact there are 52 stakes winners and a further 28 stakes placegetters in Werd's second and third dams.
She was purchased by Ascot Bloodstock and Gangemi Racing at the 2009 Australian Easter Broodmare sale in foal to Elusive Quality for only $38,000. We beleived we had secured a bargain at the time and those thoughts have further been justified with the recent success of Werd. Hopefully Messenger Miss can continue to produce quality horses in the ilk of Werd so her progeny can continue to do the family proud.
