| Tottenham Hots does the job |
"A convincing win at Ascot"
Tottenham Hots certainly came in for his fair share of knocks when he was defeated as a short priced favourite in the midweeks two weeks back.
Seventeen days sure seems like an eternity for redemption but Saturday proved worth the wait in all respects.
Tottenham Hots had reared in the gates at his second career start, landing heavily on his jaw and running a lack lustre sixth behind Cheri Cheval. Simon Miller was adamant however that the knock to the head, although denied by the stewards, had everything to do with his failure.
Saturday was all about proving just that. With John Claite unable to make the weight of 53kg, Shaun O'Donnell graciously accepted the ride and sprung Tottenham Hots out of the gates into the leading bunch. He then preceeded to over race and pushed on to the breeze where he happily settled. Upon turning, Tottenham Hots had covered the leader easily and set about holding off all challengers. Significant and Fromm loomed from the pack, but neither was a realisic threat in the run home with Tottenham Hots scoring by a length on the line.
As much as $13 was bet in pre-post markets and by the time they jumped, Tottenham Hots was on the second line of betting at $5.
Our owners are not that flush with money so it seems more than just the close circle were savy to the misfortunes of his disastrous midweek attempt!
The three year old Oratorio gelding was the best backed runner of the day and saluted handsomely to silence his critics with authority.
Simon Miller will monitor his recovery closely as the gelding having only his second campaign (the first on the race track) has been up for many months.
Provide he pulls up well, he will head to the South West Breeders Patrons Plate to be run at Bunbury on March 9. Otherwise it will be straight to the paddock for a well earned rest after a truly fruitful campaign.
