| Successful Spin at Lark Hill trials last campaign |
"A big assignment first up"
Stable stalwart, the five year old Hussonet gelding Werd makes a welcome return to the track on Saturday in the 74-86 Cash in the Bank Handicap over 1100m.
Much like last campaign, Gangemi Racing have decided to race first up without a trial. The field is one of the best Werd has faced, but his condition is better than ever after some solid weeks of pre-training at Balmoral Stud, just out of Armadale.
Werd had a profitable campaign despite missing a win over the winter months of last year. He contracted a virus in August which affected his final two runs and indeed affected most of the Gangemis stable.
Meantime, Tottenham Hots has pulled up in fine order after his disastrous attempt on Wednesday at Ascot. The impressive Pinjarra maiden winner reared in the machine, getting his head over the gates. He then missed the start, sat wide and was never comfortable in running, finishing sixth.
Simon Miller was less than impressed with the way things had panned out and commented 'lets just put it down to a bad day at the office'. The owners of Tottenham Hots were philosophical about the failure and just happy to see their charge had pulled up well for another tilt at the big time in two and a half weeks.
Bonsoleil repaid some of the faith in his ability by facing the breeze and battling on strongly to finish second in the final race on Wednesday. He was purchased from Peter Caporn and moved into the care of Shane Edwards late last year. He had been unplaced twice, rather unluckily first up this campaign. Another 1400m in two weeks will be his aim followed by a test over the mile shortly after.
Successful Spin gets his chance at the trials on Monday in heat 12 at Belmont Park. After showing very little for Brett Pope in his last campaign, Simon Miller has taken over the reins and we will have a good idea of where we stand after Monday's run.
Dark Money is close to trialing for Adam Durrant. He missed last weeks Lark Hill trials when he pulled a shoe. Dark Money has had an interrupted preparation slowed by a hoof abscess and now the cast plate. He will trial next week and is expected to debut for Adam towards the end of February.
