Rock of Gibraltar - Staten Island

Shane Edwards and Ascot Bloodstock have joined forces to purchase a stylish son of Rock of Gibraltar at the Gold Coast last week.

The Rock Of Gibraltar colt is out of the More Than Ready mare Staten Island, a half sister to stakes winners Kalamata and Kirvinsky.

Kalamata won six times in New Zealand before stepping up to Group and Listed company in Victoria in 2005, she run third in a Group 1 race behind Starcraft and Miss Potential before a third behind Glamour Puss in 1200m Listed race at Caulfield.

Kirvinsky has won three times from seven career starts including a Listed race at Flemington and a Group 3 placing behind Vienesse as a three year old. Kirvinsky continues to race as a four year old mare.

Staten Island has produced only one foal, a two year old filly by the name of Offshore Sham (Shamardal) who trialed once at Warwick Farm for an effortless win back in November. Offshore Sham is yet to debut but the team at Edwards Racing will no doubt keep a watchful eye on the half sister.

Edwards has been a keen supporter of Rock of Gibraltar as a sire and currently trains the half sister to Phenomenons, by Rock of Gibraltar.

The colt was purchased for $79,750 and plans for his ownership are not yet finalised.
